The atlas is a pretty nice and stout engine. The only major drawbacks are the lack of aftermarket support and the fact that it is quite large.

But I could definitely get into a 4200. They are sweet engines.

I owned one for 10 years and it is a very good engine.  Plenty hefty, though.

GM not continuing to develop the atlas, or at least not putting it in other vehicles was a mistake in my mind. Direct injection could have given it a lower deck height, VVT on intake and exhaust as well as cylinder deactivation could’ve given it more efficiency, and turbocharger would have given it a lot of power.

It’s a smooth and powerful engines and I’m sad it’s dead
